ALM is pleased to announce the category winners in its 2016 Elite Trial Lawyers recognition of law firms that achieved both high-dollar recoveries for clients and handled some of the most significant and creative work on the plaintiffs side.
On Oct. 11, ALM named 35 firms as finalists, reflecting a range of plaintiffs work in nine categories: antitrust; class actions; employment; financial institutions; medical devices; pharmaceuticals; products liability; securities; and special litigation.
To qualify for inclusion, firms had to have scored at least one significant plaintiffs win during the contest time period and possess an impressive track record of wins over the past three to five years.
A “significant win†meant prevailing in a bench or jury trial or in a major settlement where the stakes were high. Firms also had to devote at least 50 percent of their litigation resources to plaintiffs work and derive half or more of their revenue from plaintiffs-side activities.
Here are the winners in the nine Elite Trial Lawyer categories:
Antitrust: Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll
Class action: Tie—Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll; Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein
Employment: Greene Broillet & Wheeler
Financial institutions: Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann
Medical devices: The Lanier Law Firm
Pharmaceuticals: Susman Godfrey
Products liability: Hilliard Muñoz Gonzales
Securities: Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd
Special litigation: Levin Papantonio
The category finalists and winners were selected after thorough research, analysis and nomination vetting by reporters and editors at The National Law Journal and law.com. For the category finalists, we closely reviewed submitted nominations and reported on accuracy and performance. Since teamwork contributes to successful trial work, we recognized the work of firms as a whole rather than naming individual lawyers.
The Elite Trial Lawyers report also recognizes 50 firms with the largest total recoveries over a 12-month period, compiled by ALM’s VerdictSearch. That list was released last month along with the 35 category finalists.
A full report on the honorees—including all the winners and finalists—will be published in December. Honorees will be recognized at a dinner in New York City on Dec. 6. For more information about the dinner, contact Shea Hochenberger, ALM’s recognition event coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
