Attorney Bob Hilliard has won an $11 million judgment in federal court against Toyota for a deadly crash in 2006.
The Corpus Christi attorney represented Koua Fong Lee, the driver of a Toyota Camry involved in that accident that killed three and injured two.
Lee insisted his Toyota suddenly accelerated but he was convicted of vehicular homicide, and spent two years in prison.
He was released following reports suggesting some Toyotas had sudden acceleration problems. Lee filed a federal lawsuit and during the trial in Minneapolis, Hilliard argued the acceleration defect caused the fatal crash.
The jury ruled yesterday that the defect was partly to blame but they also found Lee was partially responsible. He'll still get $750,000 from that settlement.
"No amount of money will bring my life back. And my life is not the same anymore. And my family.. it's not only my life but also my family and relative," Lee told reporters.
Toyota says it respects the jury's decision but is considering legal options.
