Certification

"There are more than 70,000 attorneys licensed to practice in Texas. Only 7,000 are Board Certified. Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment. Within the legal community, Board Certification means an attorney has substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law.”

— Texas Board of Legal Specialization

To earn Board Certification, Mr. Hilliard took two six-hour exams for each of his certification areas.  In addition to passing the exams, Mr. Hilliard had to meet the experience requirements for each Certification in lead Trial Counsel and Litigation in Personal Injury and Civil Trial Law. Board Certified attorneys must meet specific criteria for recertification every five years, including continued legal education in each practice area, substantial involvement in those areas of the law and peer review for each area of legal specialization.

In 2014, Mr. Gonzales was accepted into the American Board of Trial Advocates ("ABOTA"). ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial.
